It’s time to give back!

It gives me an uplifting feeling when I can give something back to the world. I’m sure many of us feel the same way. One way to help is by donating unused pairs of glasses to Vision Aid Overseas. These are recycled and used to help those in poor countries see more clearly.

So, for the next couple of weeks there’s an amnesty on!

Please look out your old specs, get them from friends, colleagues and family members too and drop them off at The i-Site Opticians, 276 King Street, London W6 0SP.

We’ll make sure they get to those in need.

Thank you!

Olympic Opening Ceremony Spectacles

Theo

Some say the 2012 Olympic opening ceremony was the greatest show on Earth and others didn’t get the point of the spectacle. It shows that what is good in one person’s opinion is not necessarily good in another’s. At The i-Site Opticians however, we have something that caters to most tastes and pockets so if there’s one spectacle you don’t like here there’ll certainly be another you do!

Many people don’t blink an eye in spending thousands on image over the year, whether it’s on skincare, tailor-made suits and shirts, high quality leather shoes or even a hat for Ascot or a wedding. Yet many complete a look with a pair of 2 for 1’s which can often contradict an image.

Those who are image conscious and take time to find distinctive products should extend their searches more often to Optical products to see what’s available outside their usual haunting grounds.

The inspiration for my business was born from a frustration that most Optical practices I visited offered the same or similar products and very little that was distinctive and creative. I wanted something a bit different, after all it was my face that was being framed and it was a purchase I made only each year or two.

Please don’t be mis-framed!

Tipton eyewear is on its way!

I’m getting excited about a new range of eyewear that is soon to arrive at The i-Site.  I love frames that are a bit different to the run of the mill high street collections. Those of you who have visited us know that we stock a unique range of eyewear for real connoisseurs and I’m always looking to add new innovative designs to the collection.  The latest addition is the Vinylize and Cinematique ranges from Tipton of Hungary, made from vinyl records and cine film.

Vinylize

The first Vinylize frames were made from old LPs purchased at the flea market. As the records became rarer and more varied in quality, Tipton began having the music of up and coming musicians pressed. Today they press their own special records. Vinylize frames are made unique by the vinyl record veneer that graces the front of the frame. The accompanying case is made from a 7” single that is fitted with a zip and folded in half.  All Vinylize grooves are specially cut and mastered in Paris. This is to ensure a beautiful intricate surface for all products. Music has the power to transcending borders and open minds. The creation of a product made from recycled material has the power to touch millions. No other company fuses music and recycling with fashion more perfectly than Tipton .

Cinematique

Cinematique frames are carved from sheets of cellulose acetate plastic. The temples are made from stainless steel. All Cinematique frames are decorated with strips of film. A visible piece of storytelling history graces the temple of every frame. The temples are made by recycling 35mm and 16mm movies. Tipton makes no discretion concerning the media on the film. Some of the film is collected from cinemas and date from after 1989 (fall of Communism in Hungary), scenes from old Emmanuelle movies have also been used. The scenes are carefully selected for visibility. This means that they search for footage that is high in contrast to ensure a stunning temple. Tipton can even make custom temples with film of your choice.

A must have for people in the music and film industry! TIPTON

Diamond Jubilee event in King Street on Saturday 2nd June

The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations are around the corner, so what better time to celebrate the best of British? And that doesn’t mean just cucumber sandwiches and traditional pageantry. At The i-Site Opticians , we’ll be showcasing the ‘Best of British’ optical brands at a special Jubilee event.

On Saturday 2nd June, from 10am to 6pm, we’ll be decorating the shop with bunting and balloons, serving canapés and drinks – plus sweets for kids, and giving visitors a preview of current ranges from TD Tom Davies Limited Edition and Bespoke; William Morris Black Label;  Booth and Bruce England and Zoobug kids eyewear.

Anyone is welcome to pop in to meet the team and view the collections.

Most shops along King Street, between Ravenscourt Park tube and St Peter’s Square, will also be stringing out the bunting with some special offers and festive activities on the day.

So get into the festive spirit and support local businesses by visiting King Street on 2nd June to see what’s on offer.

Are you and your kids having regular eye examinations?

Wouldn’t it be easier if there were 25 hours in the day? Or even 26? When you’ve got a To Do list that only seems to get longer, it’s easy to put off getting your eyes tested. But whether you’ve always had 20/20 vision or you rely on glasses or contact lenses, it’s important to make the time for a regular check-up – even if you don’t think there’s a problem.

Adults should have a sight test at least every two years, and if you spend all day in front of a computer, it’s best to see your optician more frequently, while contact lens wearers must get their eyes checked every year.

If it still seems like one more thing to cram into a busy schedule, remember that an eye examination is a health check of your eyes and can lead to diagnosis of more serious health problems with no obvious symptoms. As well as checking your vision, the test can pick up signs of diabetes, high blood pressure and eye diseases such as glaucoma to conditions like multiple sclerosis and even brain tumours.

And if you have children, an eye test can even make a difference to their school work, as kids who have trouble seeing will often struggle in lessons. But as they don’t always realise there’s a problem, they won’t necessarily complain.

So spare five minutes to make an appointment with us and it’ll soon be one thing you can cross off that list. After all, you only have one set of eyes.

SUNGLASSES ARE GOOD FOR YOUR HEALTH – IT’S OFFICIAL!

What’s the best way to avoid laughter lines around your eyes? No, it’s not an exotic ingredient in a new face cream, an expensive anti-ageing spa treatment or even Botox – it’s a great pair of sunglasses.

Surprised? As we age, our skin loses moisture and elasticity, and the delicate area around the eyes is one of the first places you’re likely to spot lines and wrinkles. But one of the main causes of skin damage is being exposed to too many UV rays from the sun, even when you’re at home in the UK.

So investing in a gorgeous pair of sunglasses will help keep you protected by both blocking UV rays and stopping you squinting in bright light, which only makes lines worse. As an added bonus, choosing a pair which blocks UVB rays can help prevent cataracts forming and keep your eyes healthy.

When you’re picking your shades, make sure they’ll really do the job by checking if they have the CE mark, which proves they conform to the European Community Standard.

And of course, The i-Site opticians stocks a wide range of sunglasses, both with and without prescription lenses, so you can protect against wrinkles and cataracts and get a fabulous new look for the summer.

The I-Site Opticians wins first place in most loved business awards

Thank you to The Best Of Hammersmith and Fulham and to all our customers who recently voted The I-Site Opticians the most loved business in the borough. The team will continue to work hard to provide the highest standard of eyecare, great products, value for money and a professional and friendly service. It’s what we’re good at after all! Thank you.

Whatever next? Eyewear for Dogs!

German residents would be forgiven for thinking they need their eyes tested looking through the window of an opticians and seeing a waiting room full of dogs. After proving a big hit with pet owners, doggles sunglasses are now being sold at an Opticians in Berlin, who specialise in eye care for dogs. Doggles offer protection from the sun and wind for sensitive canines and have been made to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.  They have been a hit with dog lovers worldwide with one happy customer reviewer commenting: ‘Doggles Rule! When it’s walkie time, he gets all excited when he see the Doggles come out of the drawer.”  Although an interesting concept, The i-Site Opticians will continue to focus all its attention on humans for the forseeable future.
